Early birds lay down their markers for ‘Top Technician 2012’.

21/12/2011

Technicians from all corners of the UK have been quick to complete the preliminary online test paper in the Comma-sponsored ‘Top Technician 2012’ competition. The first wave of entrants to the aftermarket’s most prestigious award for skilled fault-finders-and-fixers has already demonstrated their enthusiasm to be among the highest scorers and progress to the semi-final heats at Delphi’s Warwick training facility in the new year.

“The cut-off date for the online test is February 24th, so there’s still plenty of time for ambitious technicians to throw their hat into the ring and make their bid for the title,” said Top Technician project manager, Nicola St Clair. “It’s a level playing field for every technician who takes up the challenge to win the title and the huge prize fund worth over £10,000 including a tax free sum of £2,500. And one thing’s for certain: there will be a new name on the award in 2012, because for the first time, previous winners are no longer eligible to enter.”

All online entrants are automatically enrolled in the ‘Top Tech Club’, which provides regular sponsored technical articles, information and offers to help technicians in their work. “In 2012, we will be taking ‘Top Tech Club’ to another level with free private access for members to the exclusive new web-based ‘Top Tech Forum’. This is already proving to be a valuable resource for technicians to network with like-minded professionals and share their knowledge and expertise,” she said.

Nicola also announced the chance for a lucky entrant to win an Adrenaline Voucher to drive on the track, on a rally circuit or off-road at Brands Hatch, Oulton Park or Bedford Autodrome in a BMW M3, Porsche 911, rally spec. Peugeot 306 or Land Rover Defender. The prize also includes the thrill of being piloted round a circuit by a professional.

Judging of the six ‘Top Technician 2012’ finalists will take place in a day-long series of practical tests at the Honda Institute in Slough. The eventual winner will be announced on Friday, May 18th at the new ‘Top Tech Live’ training event to be held at the imposing Mercedes Benz World on the site of the historic Brooklands motor racing circuit. ‘Top Tech Club’ members will be entitled to preferential cost-price tickets to ‘Top Tech Live’.
