Bratt revives British F2 challenge with victory at soggy Spa.

30/06/2011

Will Bratt has been knocking on the door of his first F2 win for a long time; in his book, too long! Finally, it all came good for Will when he mastered the wet race conditions at the daunting Spa circuit on Saturday, June 25th to score an emphatic maiden victory in Race 1 of the weekend’s double header.

Buoyed by his success, the 23 year old farmer’s son from Oxfordshire planted his car on pole position for Race 2 on Sunday, only to lose out immediately after the start in the inevitable first corner fracas at Spa’s notorious La Source hairpin. With the incident under investigation by the stewards, Bratt set about repairing the damage which had shuffled him down to fifth place. In a race-long duel with Silverstone winner Miki Monras of Spain climbing all over his rear wing, Will eventually prevailed to open up a gap of just over a second at the chequered flag and claim his second podium of the weekend in third place.

His 40 points haul from the meeting promoted him from seventh to fourth in the championship standings. But the other Silverstone winner, Austro- Italian Mirko Bortolotti, matched Will’s record over the weekend, finishing third in Race 1 and convincingly winning Race 2 on Sunday to claim leadership of the championship, 41 points ahead of Will after six races.
