Stoneman claims Formula Two crown and Formula One test drive

20/09/2010

Britain's Dean Stoneman clinched the Comma Oil backed FIA Formula Two Championship in the final round of the series and in doing so secured a test drive with the Williams F1 team.

Formula Two debutant, Stoneman, 20, took an unassailable lead in the championship after securing 9th place in race one in Valencia and third in race two, his 13th podium of the season.

All 24 cars in the Championship, run by ex-F1 racer Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision, run on products supplied by technical Partner, Comma Oil, including engine oil, coolant and maintenance products.

Palmer congratulated Stoneman's efforts, saying: "He is an outstanding talent, being extremely quick, a tough fighter, and very consistent. I am very confident Dean will prove the high standard of competition in F2 by performing impressively when he has his Williams F1 test drive."

The 2010 championship visited eight countries including some of Europe's finest circuits such as Brands Hatch, Monza and Zolder, where the Williams F1 designed single seaters were able to demonstrate their stunning performance.

Mike Bewsey, Sales and Marketing Director of Comma Oil, commented: "The second season of F2 has proved beyond doubt its credentials as one of the very finest single seater championships, with an unbeatable mix of performance, affordability and competitiveness. Our congratulations go out to Dean for his exceptional season."

The Comma-liveried car of Jolyon Palmer took second spot in the final standings, revealing his potential at the helm of single seater racing cars while Russian driver, Sergey Afanasiev, clinched third.
